A honeymoon to Belize was not the only exciting event in Kelsey Daingerfield’s life this March. On March 23, along with 18 other professionals from the Grand Rapids area, Daingerfield earned her Certificate of Project Management through IPEx! A New Jersey native, Kelsey joined the DU team as an Administrative Assistant in October 2016.
Learn more about Kelsey and her experience in the Certificate of Project Management course in the Q & A discussion below.
Q: Kelsey, what motivated you to participate in the course?
A: I participated in this course to help build my confidence and understanding of the process and to construct a routine. Project management means an easier way of life; it is a process that helps focus and reduce waste. It can be intimidating when you think about it! The challenging part is implementing the processes and making them second nature.
Q: What were some of the takeaways from the program?
A: Some of my most valuable takeaways from the program were the following:
- Define your project scope
- Determine your tasks and milestones
Your project scope is going to be the key to success. Scope helps you define the tasks you need to accomplish in order to reach your milestones. Milestones are important because they signal to the Project Manager that it is time to review the schedule, budget, and progress. Equally important is the requirement to communicate that scope to the team.
Q: How has your participation had a positive impact on you and/or helped you to achieve your goals?
A: Participating in this class has helped me become more confident in my execution of project management processes. Student participation in the course consisted of talks and feedback about past and/or current projects, which was so helpful and informative. Following the structured approach out of the PMBOK can be overwhelming, and this course deconstructed the process.
