Holland students consult with local nonprofit for field experience course

A group of students enrolled in BUSN 489: Field Experience in Business at the Holland Campus spent this semester providing consulting guidance to Neighbors Plus, part of Harderwyk Ministries in Holland, Michigan.

Under the direction of faculty member Dr. Frank Novakowski, the senior students presented how Neighbors Plus could increase their community awareness, donations and affinity for the Neighbors Plus brand through website modifications, marketing and food voucher programs.

“This experiential learning experience provided an excellent opportunity for the team members to apply their business management knowledge while they were learning about the challenges of a nonprofit environment,” Novakowski said. ”Their research, analysis and recommendations were well received by their client. Nothing beats learning by doing. It confirms what one knows and can do!

The group included Lauren Buckman, Jose Angel Dominguez, Chad Glupker, Kevin Noorman, Savorn Or, Jesus Rodriguez, Dale Siegers and Alissa Vanderploeg.

“This experiential learning opportunity was an example how DU connects the classroom principles, to real-world situations,” said Greg Foster, campus director at the Holland Campus.
