DU College of Technology’s Upsilon Pi Epsilon Honor Society inducts new members

The College of Technology’s Eta Chapter of the Upsilon Pi Epsilon Honor Society inducted 19 members on Friday, March 30, at Davenport’s W.A. Lettinga Campus. DU’s Eta chapter is one of seven UPE chapters in Michigan. Membership in UPE —  the first and only international honor society for the computing and information sciences — is by invitation only and has GPA requirements.

Inductees were Andrew Workman, Brian Griffiths, Charles Mariuz, Crystal Lind, David Tuttle, Dereck Burchette, Devin Martin, Douglas Wood, Francis Hoag, Frank Mostek, Jason Stephens, Jonathan Yang, Ken Wisniewski, Kristen Hallock, Ryan Attema, Ryan Betway, Shona Bowie, Victor Frye and Wade Gilchrist.

Recognizing Junior Achievement volunteers

Junior Achievement of the Michigan Great Lakes recognized DU students Jordan Wait-Parker, Kendall Flannery and Zoey Hoffman for their volunteer efforts with Junior Achievement. They mentored at The Potters House for middle school children, teaching them JA Economics for Success. They taught once a week for five weeks. Combined, these four impacted 75 middle school children and their families.

More than 100 students inducted into National Society of Leadership & Success

2018 NSLS inductees

On Sunday, April 22, 114 students were recognized by Davenport’s chapter of the National Society of Leadership & Success. Davenport students were invited to join the group based upon their GPA. Inducted members completed a number of requirements including an orientation, leadership training day, speaker broadcasts and success networking team meetings. This is the eighth year the organization has been active at Davenport.

The following students were recognized by their peers for being Outstanding Success Network Team members: Cassidy Baker, Melissa Thelen, Rajita Dnyate, and Tracee Valentine.

In addition, Patricia Dyal, Rebecca Nobles, and Zoey Hoffman were recognized for their Outstanding Leadership and Myrissa Bush and Rachel Sonday received the Community Service Award.

Angela Smith, Don Schelske and Gabe Hartfield were recognized with the Excellence in Service to Students Award. Faculty members Karen Clark, Kimber Cramer, and Micki Pitcher were recognized with the Excellence in Teaching Award. Grant Lee, Jenny Thurber and Laura Harris were awarded Honorary Memberships.

Lansing Campus employees help clean up the streets

Davenport University Clean Sweep-2018Employees from DU’s Lansing Campus helped clean up the streets of downtown Lansing on Tuesday, May 8. They were part of the annual Capital City Clean Sweep event organized by Downtown Lansing, Inc. Volunteers were organized into teams, then spent a couple of hours in the sun picking up waste from sidewalks and curbs. This is the third year Lansing campus staff have participated in the annual cleanup project.

DU student joins Michigan Pom Association staff

Cati Fell was selected to join the staff at Michigan Pom Association. She will be working summer camps and clinics throughout the summer. Michigan Pom Association offers personalized pom clinics that help teams improve on form and technique while also working on speed learning skills.

EVP of Marketing & Communications presents at Detroit conference

Deb Cooper at Michigan Marketing SummitDeb Cooper, executive vice president of Marketing and Communications, served on a panel at the Michigan Marketing Summit on May 8. During the Content Marketing Roundtable she shared tactics and strategies for producing content, telling a brand’s story and using content to acquire and engage audiences.

Director of Communications speaks at conference for community college journalists

Rachel Esterline Perkins, director of communications within Marketing and Communications, spoke at the Michigan College Press Association conference hosted at Central Michigan University in April. She shared strategies for using social media to aid in storytelling.
